Boat scrum, Huay Xai on the Mekong

"You get there early, you get good seat." So said the matronly lady of our guest house. "Have good trip" she said absently, not even looking at us as we followed the tuktuk driver into the street. We got there early, the first to arrive in fact. We claimed what we thought to be good seats (hard benches with a thin pillow), then wandered back off the boat to have a coffee, and watch proceedings at the ferry landing. This also got us away from the wickedly smiling man on the neighbouring boat, who kept whispering "ganja?" at me.
